Nickelback

The continued growth of Nickelback is a success story built on the road, on the radio and by above all things - great rock songs. With over 21 million records sold worldwide and numerous album, radio and video accolades, they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

By the summer of 2004, Nickelback had been on tour around the globe for the better part of 5 years, at that point supporting their third album, The Long Road (which at the time had sold 5 million copies). The plan was to take some time off to enjoy the fruits of their labor before even thinking about new songs. But two weeks into their vacation Chad, Mike and Ryan started feeling that old familiar urge, so they gathered in Chad's studio near Vancouver to jam. "Once we got in there and started messing around, we just didn't stop," says Chad.

Aerosmith

For more than 30 years, Aerosmith has defined American Rock 'n' Roll. Just a brief overview of their remarkable career is truly mind-boggling: over 100 million albums sold, countless awards (Grammys, American Music Awards, Billboard Awards, MTV Awards), and a diehard fan-base numbering in the millions worldwide. As the band embarks on yet another world tour to support the group's 25th release, Honkin' On Bobo, the members of Aerosmith remain creatively vital, and are the platinum standard for artistic and commercial success in the music business. Through it all they have defeated the odds, silenced their critics and have undeniably withstood the test of time.

It began almost by chance back in 1969, in of all places, Sunapee, New Hampshire. Drummer/singer Steven Tyler, then fronting a New York City band called Chain Reaction, dropped into the local dive, a club called the Barn, to check out The Jam Band featuring guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton. Steven was blown away; "The energy was just so intense. I looked and it was like Joe Perry was the electric guitar. If I can put that energy together with something that my father gave me, that classical influence, we might have something." By the next year, the three had joined forces. They recruited Tyler's old Yonkers buddy, drummer Joey Kramer, and christened the new band "Aerosmith," though one key slot remained open. Brad Whitford was a talented young guitarist from the Boston area who seemed destined to round out the Aerosmith line-up. "The first time I played with Brad, it just seemed to work." says Joe Perry. "The chemistry was right."

Toby Keith

Affixing labels to Toby Keith is almost a cottage industry at this point. The obvious definitions include country music superstar, chart-topping recording artist and top-grossing live performer. Less recognized though no less significant descriptions include perennial award winner and nominee, subject of consistent critical acclaim and new label president. Challenging these for prominence are the various characterizations, at times caricatures, pinned on Keith by a mass media that thrives on political divisiveness.

Too often lost in the discussion, however, are the identities without which the rest would not exist: Songwriter. Vocalist. Musician. Producer. Entertainer. Toby Keith possesses, quite frankly, rare musical talent. Prodigious talent, even. It is his music that made him arguably the most visible country artist of this millennium. It is his music that made him such a success. And it is his music that made him a lightning rod for controversy. More than anything, however, it is his music that proves Keith's ability to communicate honestly and directly with millions of ordinary Americans. Of all people, his talent isn't lost on his fans.

BOY IN DECEMBER

Def Leppard

It may be hard to believe, but Def Leppard came up in the same late '70s scene that produced Iron Maiden and Motorhead, the so-called new wave of British metal. At that time, no one could have imagined that the scene's reborn ferocity would lead to a sound as carefully crafted or pop-friendly as Def Leppard's. Neither would anyone have predicted that the plucky teens who recorded On Through the Night would end up as the era's most popular metal band or that the group would overcome unimaginable tragedy on its way to the top.

Their list of hits include: Pour Some Sugar On Me, Photograph, Love Bites, Let's Get Rocked, Hysteria, Animal, Two Steps Behind, Heaven Is, Foolin', Bringin' On The Heartbreak, Rock of Ages, Rocket, Too Late For Love, High n Dry, Make Love Like a Man,Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad and Armageddon It as well as countless others.
